What are some good places to go /out/ in Ontario as long as you can get there on a bus. My first idea is to go to Algonquin Provincial Park, but I've never been out so far from home alone without any gear which I don't really have.
Kind of bored with city parks in Toronto.

the bus has a volunteer guide you can get good info from on the way there.
they go to algonquin tobermory and a bunch of other places
still a bunch of trips left this year and the pricing is very affordable
they even let me bring my bicycle after calling ahead

Put your bike on the rack on a GO bus, go to the edge of the suburbs, then ride dirt roads all day in Caledon Hills or Durham. That's what I did this weekend. Or eg take it to Guelph or Orangeville or Uxbridge and ride home.

There are tons of dirt trails through the woods on public land in the Don Valley and other valleys, just explore the green spots on the map.

Have you been to the Toronto Islands? Both sites are really interesting to check out and are still in the city.

My grandparents used to live in Burlington. My Opa would often bring my brother and I hiking out in the hills all the time. Maybe you could take the GO Train there and take a hike out there, bring a bike with you if it's too far for your to walk (which it probably is).

GO transit plus bike is great way to get out of town, but I prefer buses to the train because they get you closer to the country (cant take a bike on rush hour trains and the only non rush hour ones are the lakeshore route). Except the summer weekend trains to Barrie and Niagara Falls. Buses all take 2 bikes each.

Get a motorcycle. Load it with a bit of kit. Drive to a park. Lock your safety gear to your bike. Hike.
I've got my bike, and that's exactly what I do. I also go on adventure rides. Ontario is actually pretty legit for adventure riding, and if you mix in hiking, your options go up even higher.
Heck, get a dual sport bike and hit some trails. Ride the same bike home!
They're cheap too.
As for your request, Niagara is breddy gud. We've got many great trails and parks.

Don't live in Brampton or Toronto. You should be fine to leave a bike unattended. If you're worried, a thick chain and lock to a tree or post should be fine.
As for tire slashing, no one really does that.

I don't know why someone would honestly vandalize a bike on a trail. We do live in Canada. I wouldn't think a bike is more likely to be vandalized than a car.
The other option is to find a place to put all that shit. Because fuck carrying my riding gear with me on a trail.

In three weeks I'll be moving away from Toronto and I couldn't be happier. This is easily the worst city I have ever been to. Canada is a nation of wilderness and snow. Nowhere else in this country (>implying Toronto is even Canada) are there people so incapable of dealing with anything related to nature.

What I find so nauseating about Toronto is how bland it is. I've lived in Cleveland and Philadelphia, cities that are poorer and more dilapidated than Toronto. However, that roughness is what gives them character. Toronto is like something designed by a committee to be as unoffensive, uninteresting and bland as possible.
I grew up in the suburbs and don't dislike them per se. But driving for two hours through Mississauga and Brampton with no trace of either a downtown or rural farmland, just and endless stretch of identical McMansions and ugly condo towers, makes me want to put a gun in my mouth.

Caledon is pretty boring for trails but the farm scenery is quite beautiful in the fall.

I've camped in the trails where no camping is allowed, it's not really that hard it's just not very enjoyable. Stealth camping requires that you have no fires except for when you leave in the morning and you should be quiet and camo'd(except you can't be actually wearing camo)

With complete silence and camo(again I mean camo tarps not clothing) no one will be the wiser. You have to leave early in the morning, which shouldn't be a problem starting off because you'll sleep like shit being nervous about getting caught. I recommend getting a headlamp with a green light setting if you require the use of light after dark.

Make sure you dress in non high vis colors, but also non camo colours, brown and dark khaki are best I find. Most people on the trail don't care about stealth camping but all it takes is one asshole to leave traces and spoil it for everyone. So leave no trace and be wary of the impression you leave on other hikers.

Stick to camping in the colder seasons like spring and fall, you are less likely to see hikers, and you could easily dismiss the fact that you're camping if questioned. I usually say I'm practicing/training for the summer, after all what kind of crazy lunatic camps when it's x-weather out??

Never eat where you camp, except for before you leave, if the spot allows it.

It's always safe to eat/cook in the open but not camp. Always bring a stove with you to cook, as wood is readily available but it may not be in some locations/circumstances. I carry both a butane pocket stove and a biolite wood burning USB charging stove.

Massisauga Provincial Park is good for beginners. Algonquin is also very good, better chance of running into moose/bear/skinwalker/samsquanch there.

Shh don't tell anyone but Killarney Park has Silver Peak, which is a mountain that you can hike up within a few hours.

my co-worker mentioned some place by either Sudbury or Sarnia. he's going with a group for $500 and they provide most of the gear. would be good for inexperienced /out/ers. I might do something like that to get back in the swing of things!

The woods exists in Ontario, you just have to go more than a few hours North of Toronto.
