Why is it so hard to get a lightweight, fully featured rain jacket that covers your ass?

All the lightweight rain jackets (OR Helium, Marmot PreCip) barely reach the hem of my insulation layer. If it's not pouring down when I leave I don't take rain pants. One of those jackets would no doubt leave me with soaking wet jocks.

Does anyone sell what I'm after? At this point if I want a rain jacket that covers the ass I'm looking at a PVC hunting coat.

Good ponchos have buttons at the bottom so they don't swing aroudn too much nor are lifted by upwards wind, and then you can use a piece of cord as a belt to keep it closer to you.

I buy snowboarding jackets, usually at the start of the new season when they are selling off the previous years models. You can get a tough, insulating, lightweight jacket with a 15,000 mm+ hydrostatic head and a whole myriad of useful pockets, upside down zips (so they dont slide open) and internal routing systems for mp3 players for well under £100. They also have a jacket-to-pants connection system so if you really wanted to you could buy the pants and more or less turn the thing into a water-proof one-piece affair.

The thing I also like about them is that you can get ones with very basic, pleasing designs/colours and still use them day to day with out looking like some tacticool faggot. The one I have right now covers my entire ass if I want it to, but only just.

Pic related. My current innawoods jacket, paid £80 for it last year, RRP was £180 at the start of the season.

A lot of New Zealand tramping is "bush bashing", most the really good jackets have a thick face fabric so they don't get shredded.

Also, it rains a lot so we are pretty serious about rainware
