hey there, spr/out/!
so, I've been thinking- what are some wilderness tips and tricks that people commonly wouldn't think of? random things, they can be as specific or as general as you want.
here's mine:
a frisbee is excellent for fanning a fire
certain kinds of plants or parts of plants can be toxic to burn. it may be beneficial to read up on this. just recently one of the kids at the park I work in took a young branch that was coming out of a chopped off limb, threw it on the fire, and it started producing a shit ton of smoke, burning my lungs and throat, and made me cough and basically unable to breathe because it made me feel really weird- from 20 feet away.
knot tying helps with everything. a lot. similarly, with a little bit of reading on physics and a few pulleys you can turn what would be a terribly exhausting bear-hang into a quick and easy task (well, except for throwing the damn rope over the tree branch- a carabiner clipped through a small loop at the end of the rope helps very well with this, by the way). this is especially useful if you are in a larger group camping for a longer time and have a very heavy lot of food.
