Cheapass black polishing compound from Harbor Freight on one side, cheapass green polishing compound from Harbor Freight on the other side. I strop at a very flat angle and only enough to round off the corners on the convex I get with my Arkansas stones.
I stop at a hard Arkansas on kitchen knives and most pocket knife blades. I strop spey blades on trappers and sheepsfoot blades on stockman pattern knives. Other pocket knife blades stop at a black hard Arkansas stone unless I'm working in the first convex. For everyday use there isn't much difference whether you strop or not.
I also strop axe blades, but not machetes or hoes.
