Hi /out/. I want to try camping (alone) for the first time. The problem is there are -black- bears, wolves, wild pigs around.
What would be the place that would be out of these animals' way? Hills? Woods? Rocks?
Would light/sound etc keep them off?
pic related is the area I'll be camping about, but it isn't exact.

Just so you know later, that bar at the base of the spear head is to stop animals from running up the spear and still injuring the wielder. Arrows don't have that, as they aim to penetrate deeper.

We have a hunting rifle but it is really old -it's my grandfather's- and I am not sure whether I can use it or not, especially in the night.

I'm not scared, I don't think it's dangerous. I just want to get depressed and overly-lonely in the middle of it and so I'm first trying to figure /out/ if it's a good idea at all

the adventure part is obviously the good part of it

Get a flashlight, if your laws allow it, use gun.

If not, use whatever else is available, bear spray, loud noises, etc. Generally wildlife wants to stay the fuck away from that shit unless you've provoked them, knowingly or unknowingly.

Are those animals hunted in this area? If so, no problem. Main problem with bears are food smells. Be really clean in your camp. Don't eat smelly, greasy food. Make sure all food, trash with food bits on it, and food-like items like toothpaste end up in your food container at night, never where you are sleeping. If you can't find a tree to hang your food from, use a bear-proof container, required in US places where bears are not hunted, like National Parks. I don't know it it helps, but I mark my turf, peeing on a circle of rocks and trees about 20' from camp. Anyway, nothing's really bothered me, because I avoid US National Park bears, and so on. We have wolves in the area, but they are hunted, so they don't bother people. The last time I saw a bear it was in a US National Forest, an area where hunting is allowed, controlled by State fish and Game, and the bear ran away when it saw me. I usually only camp alone, often after walking in a few miles.

bears don't really want to mess with people. Grizzlies will run if they know you are coming, but if you startle them theyll maul you. They might go for your food but whats most important is making lots of noise when going over ridges and corners where you could surprise them. Black bears will usually run even if you confront them (as long as its not a mother)

Sometimes fish in remote areas. Typical night setup is a perimeter of dollar store lanterns, a good fire, high powered flash light, bear spray on hand, and sometimes a shotgun. Fire is generally a good deterrent.

First trip in those parts there were wolves hanging close to camp and I was alone. Have seen large cat tracks as well.

Nope, no hunting, at least no regular activity. Only there are traps for wild pigs, but they are not in the area I am planning to camp. Pigs are the most dangerous because wolves and bears rarely show themselves, but pigs, because of fields, almost always come down to here.
