can we discuss alternative ways of keeping the mosquitoes away? I hate bug spray.

Get some really green and fresh shit to burn. Fuckers hate it. The rangers do too though.

Mosquitoes aren't attracted by light like most insects, but rather the co2 we breathe out. Try to avoid unnecessary over exertion and control your breathing.

They have these pretty legit bracelets at the dollar store that work. They only have like 250hr total life once you open the package but they stay off.

Eating garlic works for ticks, don't know how it fares with mosquitoes though. Because ticks will bite, but they let go instead of staying to feed.

Bought a Thermocell this year after seeing my buddies at work last summer
and the thing actually does work, as long as it it isn't windy.

He brought it over and we were sitting on the back patio and he turned it
on and we could see the mosquitos heading right for us, only to hit the 3'-4'
diameter "force field" of bug repellent emitted by the gadget and turn right
the fuck around.

I only use it in my tent, turning it on and setting it on the foot of my cot as I'm
getting ready for bed, leaving the tent door open to drive out any mosquitos
that might have snuck into the tent.

When out and about, I spritz some DEET spray (the higher the percentage
the better) on my legs and if the mosquitos are particularly bad, on my hat
also and that usually works well enough for me.

picked one of these up recently and it does keep the blood suckers away pretty good. unfortunately its a bit large to carry on my belt, it gets warm and doesn't seem to keep black flies away all that well.

10 minutes or so before you go out, drink some green tea. The stronger it is the better. The chemicals in the green tea are excreted through pores in your skin. Its s natural mosquito repellent.

I want this so bad. Can someone build this? Can someone make a version small and light enough to take hiking? It's the fucking 21st century, I want an anti-mosquito laser cannon mounted to my shoulder. I'd pay hundreds of dollars for such a thing.

Saw this permethrin insect repellent in the latest Cabellas catalog ($18 for the big bottle) that is supposed to be sprayed on clothing and fabric.

I have no experience with it but Amazon and REI rate it 4.5 stars.

I live in Florida, so dealing with mosquitoes is a constant chore. What I've found to work amazimgly well is neem oil. I burn it instead of citranella, or just apply topically. Fuck DEET, highly toxic and is absorbed into the skin

Mosquito netting and layers.

Mosquito's try to bite through clothing, but certain clothing they can't bite through ( like denim), and if you layer up, they can reach the skin.

Now, if you go Alaska or very far up north, you'll encounter some bestial mosquitoes a quarter the size of your hand (accounting leg span).
