Giant puffball, chanterelle, morels, hen of the woods, chicken of the woods, oyster are good to start with, also any of the tooth mushrooms like lions mane

i suggest you get a National Audubon Society field guide and never eat something you find unless you are 100% sure you know what it is and learn how to spore print

hardly, most of the stuff that will really mess you up grow on the ground. most of the stuff that grow off trees that are soft enough to eat and smell good are safe, but you should always be sure what you got is what you got

I would love to go looking for morels, but I'm not even sure where I'd find woods local that would be okay to go poking around in. Everything around here is either farm fields or definitely private property.

Does the government get pissy if you go mushrooming in state woods? (Indiana, in this case.)

Still waiting for Spring weather in Ohio. Cold front moved in wont warm up for awhile.

I hunt from SE Ohio all the way up to Lake Erie and then this will be my second year going to Michigan. Previous year went North to Boyne. This year only going as far North as Cadillac to hunt Manistee NF.

ya last ones I found I tryed every kind of light to make them glow. I did however make a walking stick that a\has a tip on it that sweeps the small area and helps a little WAY better than no stick. Better than Morel blindness-that sucks as you avid hunters know. They will be selling for 35-40 bucks a lb on EBay if you arent up for the hike.

Man, I am so glad my parents taught me how to hunt for mushrooms. We used to go gather mushrooms in the forests across the Alps (Italian here) every summer and we would always come back with a shitton of awesome shrooms.

The taste of good, dried, wild mushroom is something totally different to those you buy in stores. The flavor is just delicious.

It's been a while since I went hiking+gathering, might start doing it again.
