>>378724>>378743That knife was originally aiming the Oceanian colonies: Melanesia, Papua, Guinea, Caledonia, Polynesia, Fiji and the rest. Its creator naively picked a drawing in an encyclopedia, thinking people would relate to it. The description was quite succinct, so it didn't make clear what it really was, but he thought it was cool, plus the name would be easily pronounced in any language
Thousands of Douk-Douks were sent to those colonies, and they didn't sell a single one, without surprise- a knife bearing the name of what is a violent god, now synonymous with "criminal" indeed couldn't sell well, but he learned that too late. Those knives were then sent to all French colonies, in Maghreb, Sub-Saharian Africa, Indochina, Madagascar, and countless islands (Réunion, Martinique, Pierre & Miquelon...), where they sold incredibly well, even becoming a currency in some places. More models were later introduced to better fit the different cultures, except without fucking it up this time like they did with the Douk-Douk; there have been about 20 different variations made, so if you're afraid of being chased by an angry god, you have a lot of choice.
