As far as packs you just need to try them out and see what your needs are. Like the area you're most likely to bug out in to just a day pack. Often the same tools will be in the same pack. Like a good heavy beater knife for notching/making shelters, a small knife for shavings/fire material, other fire resources like wet fire, fire steel, magnifying glass, ect. Most packs should have different stages of fire making though, such as nasty wet conditions, super dry, short vs long term. For instance the weather is great and wood is dry so you conserved your resources by making a fire in daylight with a lenses. Renewable vs urgant fire making materials. Fire and shelter are top priority. Rest is up for you to have fun with and try. :)
