g'day, sc/out/s!

Don't fuck with me, because I've got JUNGLE BOOTS! I feel invincible with these things on. I can walk anywhere. I got them for a summer job and am currently breaking them in. Loving every minute of it.

What boots do you wear and why? What's the best way to care for a pair of jungle boots?

The general rule of thumb in looking for a good boot is trying to have as few pieces as possible. The goal would be basically one big piece of leather, no vents or super secret squirrel pockets or any of that Shit.

Doc Martens 1460s. Most comfortable pair of boots I've ever worn. Got myself the For Life edition as well so I get a lifetime warrantee and replacement soles as long as I pay for shipping.

As far as jungle boots go, make sure you treat the leather with some kind of waterproofer and if they get wet while you're /out/, don't put them too close to the fire, the glue for the soles will melt. Also I find those only last about a year of regular use (if even that long) but I guess that's justified by the cheap price.

I've been thinking of getting a pair for work, I remember them shining up real well. I won't be putting them through rough use, are Altima good? I'm on my feet a lot. I saw some for like $35 the other day, I think they were Altima. Like I said I won't be doing shit but standing on them.

On a different note, moccasins? Is there a good brand out there, ones that will see rough use? Stuff like trail walks, hiking, even hunting this winter. Any ways tips on me using them in snow/colder environments?

This. Got these Meindl Perfekt cheaply (only $229) 3 years ago and they are in as good a shape now, after about 4 months combined out of door's time (except one of the lace hooks is a bit bent cause a horse stepped on it).

DO NOT buy the 30 something dollar jungle boots, they're made in china or peru or wherever and the soles are glued to the boots. USA-made ones have the soles sewn on. Altama is what I have and I couldn't be more pleased (they aren't "Nam surplus," they were brand new). If you're looking for a pair of boots look for the phrase "Berry Compliant" in the description; it means they were made in the America with quality components. Boots are important, don't be afraid to spend good cash on them. It will not go to waste

Currently mainly wearing Oakley hot weather assault boots, I've also got a couple pairs of standard bct issue boots and a pair of Belleville's, Oakley's are by far the best. Non military boots I have are a pair of alpine design hiking boots and old pair of ll bean boots. Like both if those but I'm sticking to military boots.

I like them because they are durable as a shit brick house. I've wear them daily and while I don't get out camping/hiking as much as I would like they held up fine when I worked as a railroad switchman walking on rough ballast and climbing over rail road equipment.

Any large, durable boot is going to sacrifice some breathability. A half-way house would be a boot that is lower on the tongue and collar.

My advice is to suck it up, buy a decent pair of boots that you know fit you well, and keep a good system for changing pairs, and socks, if you'll be doing a lot of walking.

really comfy
durable
fast dry
lightweight
grip
speedy

cons:

-not every cross running shoes is a "all-terrain-shoe"

-mostly bright neon colors

i have adidas riot 4. this are "low cut" semi cross running shoes. semi because the sole did not work on every underground (plain stone floors). its a breathable gore-tex shoe. they are not waterproof.

crossrunners combine a comfy running shoe with grip and lightweight. innov8 manufactures also "high top" cross running shoes.

Get a pair of hot weather boots, I get sweaty feet in boots too, but they aren't that bad in my Oakley boots, but those are going to be expensive if you aren't military. If you can't afford oakleys, but a pair labeled hot weather with no insulation. And never wear winter boots unless there is a significant amount of snow. I wear summer boots when it's in the teens and still feel warm with movement. Change socks.

I put snoseal on the webbing parts too. Makes them slightly more wter resistant and no dawnside yet. It's mostly just beeswax so it's no different than waxing canvas.

Hope you are just trolling. Doc Martens could be one of the worst boots for the money ever. Complete fashion and poorly made. They were cool to have back in my mohawk sporting days but would fall apart on me within 2 to 4 months in the "harsh" environment of So Cal game arcades and malls.

Yeah if you wear them once a week to the club. Really, they are shit tier for the price. I had numerous pairs of them when I was 14-20. Never had a pair last longer than 6 months and even then the stitching around the welt would break, the soles would split apart, the leather would tear and the eyelets pop out. I am not sure what you paid for them, but a quick look shows they run around US$120-150. That kind of money could pick you up a pair of much better boots especially if you got lucky and found something in your size in one of the clearance bargain cave sections of a big chain sporting goods store like cabela's.

Maybe a very long time ago but even when I was wearing them in the early 90's they rather sucked. I have had doc martens with nana brand leather uppers that fell apart in no time. I even had a pair of steel toe doc martens that were gotten for me by an aunt living in england. They might had been the longest lasting but still sucked in comparison to even some of the shittier work boots that Ive gotten from walmart.

so far they fit rather snug, but you dont need any extra socks during the winter.
they are waterproof, and they keep you almost too warm unless its exceptionally cold.
I mostly get cold on my feet in the winter time, but with these shoes, my feet have been sweaty at -18 degrees, and the rest of my body was cold.

SWAT Original Classic 9" boots with side zip all the way. They recommended them when I did my Wildlife Rescue training and they're good enough for our police (Australia) and I've heard that the cops who do searches in the middle of bushland and outback swear by them.

I've got a pair of mil-spec altama jungle boots for work as well. They're pretty nice but the soles wear down quickly if you're on rocks or concrete a lot. As for care, I wax the leather with Obenauf's LP when they start to look dry, and knock the dust and cheatgrass seeds out every few days.

i've got timberland pros. they've been through 6 weeks of wilderness camping and somewhere around 50 miles of yosemite backcountry in march (lots of snow) and a bunch of other shit. they serve me well if i remember to waterproof them. but they aren't very nice for going more than 14-15 miles a day. might buy them again once this pair dies if moneys tight.

I own a pair for work. I've trodden on many 1cm upturned steel tacks and while they sink into the sole they never make it to the foot bed. When the tack is removed the rubber seals right back up and there is no visible hole. The visibility you refer to has nothing to do with its apparent toughness. Over time the rubber oxidises and becomes less and less translucent.

That said I wouldn't recommend Dr. Martens because they are fashion over practicality. They are expensive. The tred will let you down in the wet. Other than that they are good boots and will last you a lifetime, IF you look after them.

I work as a canoe guide, so I'm always getting my feet wet! trying to keep them dry was useless, so I decided to let them get wet and try to dry them as fast as possible. OP here, guise my boots are not surplus. The first person to wear them was me. They were brand spankin' new and cost me ~$120. Why the fuck would someone buy surplus boots?? Aside from them being already broken in maybe...anyway just because they're called jungle boots doesn't mean they were made for 'Nam back in '67. They're the boots recommended for being a canoe guide which is my upcoming summer job and I bought them totally new

Got my garrisons. Sure wouldn't want to hike with them, but if it ever comes down to me vs anyone i'll take the steel toes and the steel shank and the sex ass curb stomping potential.

I do not know if they still make them, but Bates Lites are what they issued when I was at BUD/S. The same weight as running shoes, just as comfortable. Get the NON steel toe version. Do not waste your money on Steel Toe. My pair lasted me through training, so you know they are tough, comfortable. These days I wear Merrill Chameleon 4's. The drawback to Danner, etc, is many of them are so well built that they are excessively bulky and heavy, and not good in a marine environment whatsoever.
