But this sounds like absolute bullshit to me. In every other area of life advances in material science have improved things. Why would axes, where 90% of the quality comes from metallurgy, be any different? The only possible reason I can think of is that all the shit axes from 50 years ago got thrown out 50 years ago so anything that remains is ok. Even so this doesn't mean modern axes are any worse.
