Best place to buy a Gransfors Bruks Scandinavian Forest Axe in the US?

No Amazon sellers have it in stock. Some list it as available but apparently it's on backorder til January inc for the seller "Woodcraft" as they cancelled my order after 2 weeks of no delivery. Nothing listed on ebay except small axes. It is also on backorder on Dave Canterbury's website. Any other ideas?

There's a couple shops that sell them locally around me. Send me money and I'll mail you one... I can also get Wetterlings, but I don't know if they compare quality wise to Gransfors.

What Wetterlings? The place I work sells them for a bit over 200, with my discount I can get them for about half that price, but if I start buying them and selling them I'll lose my job. Remember kids, everything gets marked up a shit ton in the retail world.

How come Autine forge welds in that "alloy insert" into the axe bit but Gransfors doesn't? Is Autine going cheap on the axe head overall and supplementing with the insert or is Gransfors going cheap by not doing their own inserts?

I don't think anybody here has the real sort of knowledge about this sort of stuff to give you an answer. I'll text my blacksmith friend and ask for you. She doesn't make axes or stuff like that, but better than nothing.

Autine is using a harder alloy than the hopefully tempered correctly tool steel that GB uses. That being said there has been issues in recent years with poor tempers of their edges that they then charge you 40 dollars to fix under warranty.

I figured that the entire axe head on the GB axes might be made out of the alloy that the Autine axes have just for the bit.

She's mentioned "Gransfors are probably drop forged though" which they are, so I'm enquiring as to what's bad about that.

It seems as though having only the edge of the bit being made of a harder type of metal will lead to it falling out eventually. I get that doing it this way is more labor intensive which is why Autine is more expensive, but it seems like it would be more prone to failure than making the entire thing out of quality steel like GB.

The bit is forge welded to the rest of the head, so I don't think there's much chance of it falling out. Based on what >>414126 said, Gransfors seem to make their axes out of a good steel, while autine make their axes with an okay steel for the head with a great steel for the bit.

Why even call it a warranty. Wranglerstar has also documented poor fitting on the handles.

That person was talking about GB forcing you to pay and Wranglestar never talked about his replacement axe he was mailed from Autine.

So they can kike you out of a few more shekels. Autines aren't worth the money from what I've seen. If I'm paying $300+ for a blasted axe, it better be perfect in every way possible. Wranglerstar's handle came loose.

Now, I'd be hard pressed to say that GB's are worth the money after seeing how easy it is for them to make it, but they are probably the best "affordable" axe out there followed by council and wetterlings

Too bad he never documented their customer service, instead he just blasted them and made no follow up. However if you ask the man who has marketed himself as John Neeman (I dont know how to spell his real name because I do not understand Latvian) he would say that any defects like that are covered free of charge with no shipping costs and that there have been less than 18 returns of axes due to defects.

The axe head definitely "loosened up." But did it FAIL? Well, not really. I am happy with 1 in 1000 axes having loosening up rates as long as it does not mean failure.
