U think what the other posters are trying to say is that you need to limit your needs down a bit. Is this a bookbag? is this a backpacking pack? If so, for how long are you going for. Do you need heavy winter clothing storage?

If it's a school bag, just pick anything that wont rip under normal load. If not, then look at this:

These are all the day backs REI offers online I believe and you can find some very versatile packs here that will work as a school pack and a hike pack but won't be to exceptional at either. One more tip is that I would not worry about looks, some people just see a pack that looks good and buy it. Do your research

For day to day and small amounts of camping or car trevelling I suggest something like this OP

You can add extra pouches or whatever with the molle, and it comes with a removable hip belt and pouches. They're tough and have nice zippered compartments and webbing on the inside for keeping things organized and have a pouch for camelbaks or what have you too.

I've spent a lot of time shopping for a pack, still haven't decided. I don't like the look of tactical packs, but I like the MOLLE they have. So I'm leaning towards a less tactinerd pack with some MOLLE. I wish like Osprey and others would at least put a couple on their packs.

their products have great ergonomics and fairly good function. some of their designs are a bit too busy for my taste though, in the sense that there are too many straps and pockets that lead to extra weight. at full price, I would lean towards more cottage industry lightweight gear, but at your prices, yes, buy it!

I have a Rush 24.

Used it for some short /outings.

My impression is that it carries too heavy for the things you can fit into the bag.

Try carrying the bag with some weight to see if the yoke backstraps suit you.

After alternating between the Rush 24 and the LBT 1476A, I much prefer the LBT. Feels better to carry and made of much lighter material.

The Rush wins on organization, but overall the LBT I find much more suitable.

In the Marines we use that big as ilbe pack for everything. But I think it over rated. I got a 60s era Alice pack. I got everything I would need for months in that thing. Plus if you get the frame for the pack you can double your load. Probably fit a baby on the bottom shelf.... but any who that baby is the best. But I'm old school.

I got the High Sierra Summit 45 for 60 bucks not long ago.

I live a pretty minimal life with the exception of musical instruments, weapons, and outdoor gear. Spend a lot of time backpacking, camping, bushcrafting, and exploring on my ATVs, and I do it year around in both good weather and bad, so paying a little extra for quality and reliability doesn't bother me too badly.

I want a bag no heavier than 1kg for ~40L, and ideally closer to 0.5kg, like the zpacks arc blast. unfortunately, the cuben/nylon fiber used to make the arc blast can't stand up to any level of bushwhacking or scrambling

I use a fucking NGG Swiss Edition bag I got for opening a checking account. Aside from having to mend one of the inner pockets (seam came undone) it's been fine for day hikes and holds extra clothes. Might not trust it for tacticool rolling and shit though.

I bought mine from LeeFee in army green on eBay. After packing it full the zipper opened wide in the middle leading to all my shit falling out. Ofcourse I complain on eBay and the seller sends me a brand new bag in black, for free. Top Notch.
The only minor problem is that it opens on the side which can be annoying when getting gear out while walking and such

Got the exos 58. Definitely UL. Very small suspension. You put anything over 30lbs in that pack its gonna be uncomfortable. Of course you shouldnt be buying a UL bag if your kit is over 30lbs.
