mushroom picking is risky if you dont know what you are doing. it is possible that there are some magic mushrooms around, but there are many other types which could kill you. if you are serious, then go with someone who has been before and knows whats up. identifying mushrooms is not easy and there are significantly more dangerous ones than magical or delicious type

Find a cow pasture where the cows aren't fed grain. Look on the cowshit, find shrooms. Pinch the stem, if turns blue then chew. Liberty caps can be found in the pacific nw, you just need to know what they look like. It's best to pick cowshit shrooms in the early morning after a rain.

you probably won't have much luck in the NE, especially if you are looking for actives and you are a beginner.

if you want to get into mushroom hunting in general, summer will be your best bet to learn

if you want actives, your best bet will be to grow your own

either way, the shroomery is your best resource
