I'm a newbie sc/out/ and I'm looking at buying my first pair of proper hiking shoes. I don't think I know enough about them to make a decision.
I want something for walking to and from university (40 min. each way) daily and at the same time fit for multi-day hikes here in the Norwegian outdoors. I think I'd really like something lightweight.
After consideration my main choice would be the Salomon X ultra GTX, http://www.salomon.com/us/product/x-ultra-gtx.html
I'm also considering the North Face mid fastpacking shoe http://www.thenorthface.com/catalog/sc-gear/mens-shoes-filter-category-ultra-protection-series/men-8217-s-ultra-fastpack-mid-gtx.html?variationId=KZ3&variationName=TNF%20RED%20%2F%20TNF%20BLACK
and this ECCO BIOM terrain http://us.shop.ecco.com/men-boots/ecco-mens-biom-terrain-plus-823514.html?dwvar_823514_color=58712
The Salomon has great reviews and seems like a real all rounder. The lacing system seems great, and is lacking in the mid height version of this shoe.
Would I need a mid-height shoe/boot?
Should avoid walking with these on the asphalt to university? I don't really want to buy another pair before the winter just for walking on the asphalt.
