>>427268>>427304>>427307>>427334>>427256I was walking a pretty remote trail. It's marked all the way through but doesn't see much use from the feel of it. The trail went by a field that had a hunting shack on its edge (I presumed it was one, based on the hole cut through the plexiglass window). Up until the the shack the place was accessible with a jeep or a pickup truck.
I kept my eyes open and peered over the field trying to spot any hunters or deer in the trees but I saw none. I was getting past the field when I noticed the pit, previous pic related. When I saw the head of the horse I got a bad feeling I wasn't supposed to see it, dunno. I immediately went on one knee and tried to spot anyone near the place, behind me, beyond the field but still I saw nothing. Double checking nobody was around, I snapped a few pictures and went on my way.
After the field was left behind, I walked about half a mile beside a rocky clearcutting. For the whole time I was watching the treeline on the other side. Not until I got properly into the woods did the spookiness dissipate.
I continued the trail for about 6 kilometers, ate my lunch, made some coffee and turned around to follow my steps back to where I started. As I was getting closer to the field, I was getting a bit anxious. I was pondering about circling around the field and the pit but since it was getting dark and snow had started to fall, I went straight through. There wasn't anything in the treeline this time either so I just walked calmly past the snow covered horse head and on to the hunting shack. My heart nearly stopped when I noticed a parked pickup truck beside the shack. Trying not to keep any noise, I kept walking and never looked back. Eventually I got to my car and drove home.
After some research on the subject: "Keeping a horse carcass is forbidden for moral and ethical reasons." I don't know about morality towards horses or their owners but seeing that in the forest was fucking 2spooky4me.
