Any carvers and whittlers about?

I want to get my dad some wood carving knives for christmas but I don't know what to go for between pic related and a Mora 164 crook knife & 106 wood carving knife? Which set would be more versatile?

Or if there's any better options that don't go above the £40 mark then please share them.

I would recommend the crook and carving moras.

Just because you get the curved spoony blade, and mora are of a god standard quality wise.

The Mora set will set you up nicley for making spoons - provided he has a hatchet or something as well to process spoon 'blanks'.

The Flexcut set would do nicely for doing some more interesting shapes or perhaps carving woodspirits and that sort of thing.

The Flexcut tools are great, very ergonomic and good quality. Like most blades if they're stropped very regularly while working they'll not need much attention.

The Moras, specifically the crook knife could use a bit of modification. IMHO, they don't come quite as sharp as they should and they also have a point which should be removed and rounded. A point on a crook knife can cause damage where you don't want it and fixing it can alter the final form of your spoon.
