I'm going hiking by myself in a secluded forest preserve in Wisconsin this week. I'll be hiking alone for about 3 hours.

Is it safe to hike in a secluded rural area alone? I don't know of any dangerous wildlife in the area, but I always get paranoid about going to desolate locations alone.

Bring an axe and plenty of bear mace. I once went hiking in SD for 1.5 hours and it was terrifying.

Hiking by yourself is totally fine, as long as you take some basic precautions.
Tell someone where you're going and when you'll be back, and to alert the authorities if you're not back by a certain time.

Bring emergency supplies that would keep you alive overnight, should you get lost/stranded. This is really dependent on your local weather. I live in eastern NC, if i'm hiking during the summer a granola bar and a light rain coat is all I need. Wisconsin in the winter means cold, I assume, so wear some layers. an emergency blanket and thick insulating jacket (wool or synthetic, not cotton) should be good. Bring some lightweight food, like granola bars/beef jerky. Water/a way to melt snow. Two methods of starting a fire that you're comfortable with, most likely a lighter and pack of matches. A signaling device, like a whistle. A flashlight.

That stuff should comfortably fit into a small daypack, have a good trip.

OP here.

Ended up going solo hiking around some awesome terrain.

it was cold out though, and I spent about 1 hour hiking with numb legs.

I'm home now, and I think I got a bit sick from hiking in the cold.

Where at op? I'm in Oconomowoc. Your biggest concern is careless deer hunters and people who don't want you trespassing on their private land. Not really any animals to worry about to much, bears are sleeping mostly, wolves are still very very very rare, coyotes are no trouble, badgers are mostly sleeping, wasps are dead, no snakes really. It's people that are your biggest threat.

I'm not sure where you are going but know that part of the state will be in a late season deer hunt. Make sure to wear blaze orange or you stand a good chance of getting blasted. If you don't have any blaze orange, stay out of the woods until the hunt is over.
