>>433577>>>>/o/off road generalshitposting aside, the best "/out/" cars are manual transmission trucks, this includes:
1. Jeep Wrangler
2. Ford Ranger (note: these were discontinued in 2009), Chevrolet S10 or GMC Colorado (along with whatever Mazda and Nissan have)
3. Ford F-series (best being F-150 and F-250, gas or Diesel), Chevrolet Silverado, GMC/Dodge/Toyota equivalents as well
4. one of those little geo four wheelers
5. Ford E-series, or Ford Transit Series (because you can live in it, and can take some light off roading) not ideal due to being massive boxes but will work
6. Subaru or Volvo station wagon
All you need is a vehicle with a high(ish) clearance, manual transmission and arguably most importantly easy to source parts. This is why fleet trucks (and the Wrangler) are the best /out/ cars. Fuel economy comes second, because if you want fuel economy get a 250 dirtbike.
If you want my personal opinion, the "best" /out/ car is by far a Diesel Jeep Wrangler.
Stay away from SUVs, especially newer model automatic transmission ones because they are shit when it comes to reliability (an old SUV, from the 70s-90s will work fine though). Manual transmission is a must because it gives you better control over the engine.
Be aware though that with whatever you get, you need to bring replacement fluids (fuel, coolant, engine oil, transmission oil) and spare parts (mostly small things like tubes and electrical stuff) and a spare battery. Check /o/'s occasional off-roading general for better advice.
