They have chronic bouts with depression because of their bodies and their lifestyles. This makes them seek quick, lazy, and unrealistic forms of happiness, like they joy that comes from owning a dog. They then decide to become dog-breeders and have litters in their houses, never cleaning up afterbirth and letting the dogs run loose and urinate on furniture.
Their "dwelling" wreaks of fetid rotting dog carcasses, piss and shit on top of being filled with knick-knacks and baubles that they once got a passing giggle out of, and half-eaten containers of microwavable processed garbage they call 'food' and/or take-out and pizza boxes.
Their humid putrid stench permeates the entirety of their house and you can actually feel it creeping into your pores and clothes after a day or two of staying there.
It is also dark and cave-like due to the lack of light sources and/or burnt out bulbs that they refuse to replace or change. You should fully expect to run into one of their late elderly family members decomposing in a corner somewhere, or under a trash heap.
