Hi /out/

I live in a basement appartment with limited sunlight, but I want to have some sort of plants in my place. I was thinking of cacti, venus flytraps and other small plants. Does anyone have any suggestions? I am open to anything.

Honestly, get a grow light, a timer and a couple containers. You can grow lettuce down there or whatever the fuck you want

things you should consider:
1) houseplants are dust catchers. they do not clean themselves, you need to do that because airflow is limited.
2) many houseplants like high humidity, if you don't like high humidity in your little apartment it might be best to avoid that

the senseviera is great with very little light, as well as any type of Draceana. There are actually a ton of low-light plants but those two are good air cleaners. Look on wikipedia for an article about NASA's research on the subject of air cleaning plants.

also, cacti and venus fly traps will need a decent amount of light, as well as low humidity and high humidity respectively. consider a small grow-light. run anything else by me, I manage a plant nursery and literally talk about this shit all day with customers and sell these plants

Grow leafy greens and increase your light level. You can eat them every few weeks. I recommend dandelion, but it might be too intense for your delicate tastes.

There are a few types I bonsai trees that do well indoors as well. Ficus is a really easy one. Texas ebony is also supposed to be easy did you can find it.

You can also set up a terrarium/vivarium (think mini greenhouse in a fish tank or similar) and grow tropical plants. There are a lot of species of mini orchids that do well in terrariums. Lots of people even add poison dart frogs (no poison when in captivity so 100% safe, but you shouldn't handle them since they get stressed easily)

they tested three chemicals that were considered common and potentially harmful household air contaminants at the time: trichloroethylene, formaldehyde, and benzene. since this study was released, these particular chemicals have been somewhat reduced in residential use due to their documented health effects. e.g. urea-formaldehyde insulation has been phased out because it can outgas formaldehyde, water-based paints and other low-VOC products have been further developed and are more widely used. however, we still have a long way to go.
the thing is there's lots of other shit in home air that's just as bad if not worse, so you should only look at this study as a very rough guideline. and you should not (!) assume that just because you've got plants in your house the air is great -- opening your windows and spending lots of time outside are more important.
