>>438045You're overthinking it.
For just ripping around town, any backpack/bookbag is fine. Wenger/Swiss-Army-Knife makes some nice packs, laptop pouch, couple of big pockets, couple of smaller pockets, decent "office-supplies" pouches sewn in. My EDC, to/from work, on the left.
For carrying around a ton of shit (multi-day trips, or when I pack all my camera gear), the big green fucker.
It's big, lacks a hydration bladder pouch. Did I mention it's fucking big?
It did Philmont and a lot of miles in the rockies before I got into motorsports. Probably way more than you need.
Highmark pack is for snow use only. That's a $1000 avalanche airbag pack.
Far right is my "dirt pack" - actually a snowmobiling pack, but it works better on dirt than it does on snow. Couple of smaller pockets, hydration compatible, waist/chest buckles, and tough/waterproof.
If you're looking for an all-around pack, especially for offroad use, get something with a waist strap. Keeps the pack from bouncing around on your back.
Other than that, it's not rocket science.
