>>440679I was always skeptical about sar. Bought new soldier version, because I needed knife and screwdrivers more than pliers and a ruler. Only complaint in four years is the serrated blade. Once got laid by a scoutgirl because helped her repair bike with my knife. We mainly talked about knife. Fled the country shortly after, had to leave soldier in a trunk, not allowed on planes. Would have been better with plain edge Trekker.
Thought I will survive without sar. Week in, got myself cheap shit-tier 'camping' model. Small, cheap piece of shit lasted whole year - mending bikes, uncorking wine and opening tins for 30 people dorm, opening crates, disassemble electronics and pallets, sharpened that shit on mug bottoms. Always took care of it - cleaned in vinegar, oiled with olive oil. I underestimated pliers at first, but they helped me with dozens of ticks.
Gave it to gf just in case for her studies abroad. She abused the shit out of it. All crevices full of filth - old tuna, crumbs, everything imaginable, didn't even open. After cleaning, I understood that it is fucked beyond repair. The frail spine broke, it swiveled 300° on either side. I calculated that it costed us 0.01¢/day since I bought it. Have no regrets, best 8€ spent.
Now, I am sick of my Soldier. It is too bulky to use as edc + I do not need small saw everyday. Camping looks cheap + I do not need a saw. I am looking on "pioneer alox" version. Decent size, useful tools, doesn't look like cheap tacticool, not a pliers w/ shit ruler
