No, the north Atlantic current has stopped and failed before. It sent europe into a mini iceage in the 1400's. Like the polar vortex collapses, they are still there they just moved wildly south for a period of time.

Shit, I'm in Finland and it is currently around +2 and -5 degrees depending on the day. Around Christmas we were down to -15.. Can't recall any colder days this winter. Actually, the monday after Christmas week, it was around -20 for a day or two.. Really warm winter here as well, normally we'd be around -20 to -30 this time of year.
