In general, cotton probably isn't a great idea. Odds are, this is just going to be some chill camping, maybe some roasting of hot dogs and what not. Good times. But, you're gonna to want to be prepared, just in case they're /out/ists or something and want to go hiking. You're gonna want to have the right clothes just in case.
So, jeans will be fine if you're just hanging around and not expecting freezing rain. But otherwise, you're going to want a pair of pants that can dry quickly for when you inevitably get wet. Made of polyester or some polyblend will do you good, usually they're cargo pants. You might actually have some, check the tags of your clothes. Same with your shirts, poly or poly blend. When I first started going /out/, I wore a cotton t shirt, jeans, and a school back pack with a hoodie in it and a shitty knife. Totally radical, but cold as fuck once I got rained on and broke my knife. Athletic shirts (like Under Armor, etc) are actually great for out, like the stuff you find at tj-maxx and shit. Great for layering too. You may also want to bring a fleece(polyester) and a rain jacket. Keep them in your pack when you need them, pull em out when it gets cold and rainy. Sweat is something to worry about when wearing the fleece inside the rain jacket, so don't wear both while hiking unless you're really fucking cold.
Wool is a wonderful material, but it's damn expensive. You can find a good wool hat on Amazon though, and I highly recommend you do. Some acrylic hats are decent to though, Under Armor and company actually do make some good hats too, but those might be expensive. I have a wool deck-hat and an acrylic one, and they have served me well over the years.
