Naive and wanting to backpack

No.451091 View ViewReplyOriginalReport
Hey /out/

I'm looking to get into backpacking. The most I've ever done before is day hikes, as much as intensely strenuous with a 30lb pack on over 11 miles of mountain.

But now I'm looking to increase my volume of trips and work up duration to be multi-day with a friend.

I'm looking for tips to get started here. I've never camped a night outside of a campground surrounded by RVs or other people. I normally sleep in a small lightweight tent, but not a bivy. I've never hiked and set up camp, or got up to do another 20 miles the next day, and the day after that as well.

So how do i do this? How do I scale up? I've got a place about an hour away with a 24mi trail with a lean-to halfway through. But as for the rest, packing a bag, what to bring, gear to consider, trail wisdom and the like, I don't know any of that. I want to some day be able to go on hikes in the duration of as long a month.

Treat me like I'm a retard, any /adv/ is appreciated.

Thank you
