>>460173If you get a shortwave radio with Single Side Band(SSB) you can listen to HAMs too. I've got an Eton E6 Aviator and a small Goal Zero solar panel to charge batteries. The aviator is really small and a good radio, antenna port for running a wire up a tree too.
I've never met a crank solution that I've liked but I wish I had. It's very easy to get a radio or charger with a poorly designed and mostly plastic gearbox system, and a cheap motor used as a generator and gives you very little output for the effort. I do have an Eton FR160 that I keep around, but I would leave it at home or in the car as a spare.
