/out/, I bought this SADF vest rig a while back, and I want to attach my sleeping bag and tent to it, yet the straps and the bottom are too small for anything and trying to clip it on with carabiners was a mistake.
How am I supposed to do it correctly?

tl;dr... you're not.

If you really want to nigger-rig a sleeping bag on the back, then I'd suggest doing something with these attachment points.

Take above valise straps, run through desired attachment points, place tent and sleeping bag (ideally in valise bag) between straps, wrap around and synch tight.

Maybe bend some light aluminium pipe to make some shabby extrenal fram which latches on the points marked by >>457409

bic related, kinda shitty with paint but i hope you still get the idea.

or get some elastic netting like the stuff that is used for securing cargo on cars / pickups.

What? No, he doesn't need a bent fucking pipe. Just use straps. If there aren't enough attachment points, these can be sewn directly to the fabric with a needle and thread in <10 minutes of work.

I would see about splitting up the tent and fly and attaching them to the sides, instead of the back. Having like 5 pounds hanging way off the bag without a proper frame is going to suck.

I have one and I can hold a sleeping bag with the straps that are designed for that purpose that hang off the bottom. If they're too short for your bag then the obvious answer is to just sew more material onto them to make them longer.

Why not do something that's a little bit more field expedient? I feel like it would be a lot more comfortable to carry two ponchos and a poncho line (one poncho for a poncho liner sleeping bag and the other poncho for over head cover).

This way you wouldn't be stuck trying to mod your vest out the wazoo, and it would be presumably more comfortable while you're walking around as you'd have a lot less flopping around or digging into you.

I had problems on my last backpacking trip because I had strapped my sleeping bag and pad on the bottom of my pack in a horizontal fashion. man did it get torn up by the brush. I think i'm gonna trim it or rig it up in a vertical fashion.

Your profile is important when hiking, many people take it for granted and just strap tons of bulky and wide shit that gets hung up or ripped off and littered in the brush.

Ti will drag the center of gravity too far from his body.
I would say, the best is to remove the back bag, to add a giant buttpack or to directly strap the tent on your ass and a to not get a giant sleepingbag "pocket" on your back so you don't have to compress it and it will last all your life.

I give you that, it will be ugly...
