I feel like you guys over-prepare for everything.
I see threads about pants, and gloves, knives, contemporary survivalist crap. I live in bear country, and have so my entire life. inna woods is my backyard. when I go /out/ I 100% of the time find myself wearing jays, a hoody, and jeans.

even when im out on the block in the summer treeplanting... which is the roughest fucking shit you can ever go through as far as /out/ is concerned im wearing basketball shorts, steel toes and a Tshirt, and go on home to my simple Coleman Tent.

What makes people so soft around here? no im not speaking directly to all of you, im not trying to shitpost... just...Why such the soft hands?
Youll never fully experience /out/ if you are so afraid of it, or scared to get MAIN-GEE

I understand what you're trying to say, and I agree somewhat, but you're being really silly.
How is that even close to the roughest shit? You're not in the winter, you're not doing it in really bad weather and you're not even above the treeline (obviously). You don't have to ascent 2000m and sleep there in a snowfield. The trees come from somewhere, and I assume you don't carry them yourself, plus your food and shelter from the next city by foot.

Of course you don't need high end equipment for something like that.

Anyway, it's an imageboard, and posting images and discussing things is what you do.
Just as with anything else in the world, most people are beginners so for them the posting images thing doesn't apply. What else can they do but ask questions, discuss theory and preparation?

All I know is that I have dealt with too many soaked pairs of cotton pants, too many wear-and-tear holes and frayed cuffs and stains, too many ruined regular clothing items. A dedicated innawoods pair of pants is a good investment for me. Something you can beat the shit out of and not worry about ever having to replace it. Same philosophy for just about every piece of gear.

you are a local you have many skills that give you safety, like realy simple stuff like judgeing the weather.

im a gear aficionado so i tend to make exuses for bringing stuff. for example i live like 10 miles from a national park, i often go there for day hikes but i still bring my stove and cook instead of a sandwhich. im sure other people do the same thing.
but yeah like 90% of people have sand in thier vaginas, and lack expirience in how much abuse the body can take. or just plainly enjoy glmping more.

I can only imagine what state that poor bastard was in clambering over slippery rocks without proper boots or even waterproofs. This is how people foolishly die of hypothermia.

There's nothing wrong with being prepared OP. Having backups for your backups. A plan A B and C. It's not being scared, it's being sensible. Situations can rapidly change when you least expect them or unforeseen events can occur and you need to be able to adapt to them. I'd rather have it and not need it that need it and not have it.

Treeplanting is the most strenuous job alongside Crab Fishing.
1 day its snowing
1 day its a monsoon
1 days its 35 degrees celcius
Deer flies create a black cloud above your head. mosquitos and black flies are a welcome sight in comparison.
whenver you kill a deer fly, it released a scent that attracts 2-3 more in it's place and they bite through clothing. gotta love it though :]

OP, planting trees is obviously not the hardest innawoods activity. If you can comfortably wear a pair of polyester shorts, it's not very difficult at all. I agree that there seem to be a lot of soft cunts around here, and a lot of guys care more about collecting or bragging about their stuff than they do the /out/doors, but that doesn't make you tougher, like most Atlantic Canadians you're probably just very poor, but rather than come to terms with your inability to afford quality gear, you pretend everyone else is soft. Knock it off, you plant trees and wear silky shorts, you're an effeminate hippie.

I have a feeling that you (like many rustics) think living near the woods means you're somehow magically an experienced outdoorsman, but you actually just day hike, fish, go to bush parties, and maybe hunt or car camp, and only in reasonably good weather.
