I'm going to be doing a lot of off trail hiking and I'm considering buying a pair of full shank, military style boots. I currently use a pair of chunky soles, wingtip camp boots, but water is starting to damage them. I'm looking to something that can take abuse and keep me comfortable and safe for 10mile + hikes.

Has anyone here ever gone hiking in military boots? Do you prefer them to hiking boots?

I tend to prefer a taller boot and a think sole.
