this data tells the system where to expect which satalite. this means the position calculations are a lot faster. ( and if they use weather data also more presice)

Phones can use app, track a million other stuff, like g- load, steps, heart rate, calorie use, gps tag pictures, etc.
Phones are more precise for the average use since they load correction data on thier own.
the reception is pretty much the same, in normal conditions
but gps might have exchangeable antennas which can improve the -db
