this data tells the system where to expect which satalite. this means the position calculations are a lot faster. ( and if they use weather data also more presice)

Phones can use app, track a million other stuff, like g- load, steps, heart rate, calorie use, gps tag pictures, etc.
Phones are more precise for the average use since they load correction data on thier own.
