Like most people on this board I have a desire to live away from big cities and large crowds, but im not interested in secluded cabins in the woods. I have been trying desperately to find an ideal place to live where I can continue my employment with Californias DPR or other park system while being away from lots of people. So thats basically the reason for this thread.

What small city or town do think would make an excellent place to live while not being complete secluded from humans?

Personally I have been looking at the Joshua Tree area, if I could find seasonal employment there and a cheap apartment I think that would be perfect.
