>>462562toss a flat rock into the fire coals after you wake up
go fish, catch fish, gut fish, bring fish back to camp
clear away top layer of coals to get to "fresher" coals underneath, place semi-dry sprigs of aromatic wood, combined with (especially if the wood is dry) needles, and/or herbage (don't use poisonous ones, you tard), position the now heated rock on top, allowing enough air to get in for light-moderate amount of smoke
butterfly fish, place skin down on rock, wait 15-30 minutes (depending on thickness of fish and heat of rock) until just cooked through
if you want to get all fancy, bring some salt and spices or herbs and lemon and season it up, fan some smoke over it for increased flavor if otherwise just sitting around
hit the coals with a spritz of water every now and then if the smoke gets too heavy
you can fillet the fish skin on, if you really want, but I honestly think the bones and cartilage add flavor and texture to it, and prefer to pick around them
