Living off the grid in the UK

I'm extremely interested in pursuing this type of lifestyle. I imagine it'd be very fulfilling.
I also don't really want to be apart of a society that is falling apart, and would rather go my own way.

If anyone could provide any information on this matter i'd be extremely grateful :-)

Technically possible but setting up a permanent place even if you own land, I think the red tape will get you. you'll have some twunt official you cant erect a permanent structure without this that or the other, or the land you own is not allowed to be used for farm use do to local bylaw xyz ect trying to set up a permanent off grid dwelling would be a nightmare job- remember that couple in south Wales who tired, and had the council rip it all down? He has sheep, ducks and chickens and a small orchard but is far, far from begin able to be self sufficient

As for time to learn the skills and what not, I'd say 3 or 4 years to get into the swing of the harvest, storage and preservation, sowing, growing, and back to harvest

I think the best case would be looking up the traveller scene, not the pikey Appleby horse fair crowd, the 'live simpler 'type having a mobile dwelling means you don’t get caught up in things like council tax and such I suppose, but could be a bugger for things like post :/

Damn, that is a lot of money. and still not self sustainable. I've heard of small communities that are 100% self sustainable, but that's in the USA. Bastard swat teams ended up arresting them at gun point though as it was illegal to have homes that are not connected to the grid.

Yes it is possible. Don't listen to the yanks "Uk is a totalitarian 1984 country, you cant do anything here" IF you mean to live on a homestead, farming and growing your own food, etc, it's pretty easy, there's nothing illegal with it. IF you want to live like a medieval person, that means bowhunting and other illegal things (illegal traps, etc) then it is illegal. Same with a hunter gatherer lifestyle. In general, if you don't make much hassle and keep to yourself and stay reclusive, the police would have no reason to check on you and you could probably live like that to the end of your days. In any western country it is illegal to live by yourself off the land primitively, so you just have to break the law.

Skills needed are woodworking, farming, hunting, gathering, long term food storage, firearms use and maintenance, etc.

How you can get started? You need to know the skills first. Buy some land, make a simple shelter like a wikkiup, plant some crops, make fences and space for livestock, hunt and gather, etc. I Imagine land would cost the most, then livestock and tools, etc. You need an axe, saws, knife, sharpening stones, bow/air rifle/gun, books on how to forage, clothing, ammunition, lots of rope and string, etc. It wouldn't really cost that much though.

I know a relative who lives in a roundhouse in wales and live sustainably, grows his own food, hunts and has livestock, chops his own firewood. You need money to get started but it isn't that hard.

Thanks for the reply. What about things like using solar/wind power, rainwater catchment systems, etc. That's my main concern.
One of the main reasons I'm doing this is because I don't want to spend more than 1/3 of my life working a shitty ass 9-5 job.
So being able to survive without having to pay for electricity, gas and water is a major thing for me.
