>>466388OP you should bring regular things for camping and hiking but also things that will prepare for certain emergencies. (like being stranded inna desert or onna side of the road)
aside from normal things -
Bring 3 gallons of water per day per person.
Bring spare gasoline for your vehicle.
Bring at least 3 good flashlights per person (I prefer Fenix brand lights with Cree LED technology. bright as fuck. small, portable, waterproof, shock proof, etc. look them up)
Bring 3 times as much food as you would normally think you need.
Bring 3 different ways of making fire. (lighters, matches, firestriker thingy's, mirror, magnifying glass, etc)
Bring at least 3 first aid kits (one for vehicle, one to carry on your person and one for base camp)
Make sure you have a good cell phone and at least two ways to replenish the battery like car charger plus solar charger or little wind up emergency radio with built in phone charger or a spare battery fully charged.
Paper Maps for the area, compass and GPS
Inform family and friends with accurate details of your route, destinations, and schedule for departure and return. If you don't come back when your supposed to, they can come lookin for you
those are just a few things off the top of my head.
