>>475770It can vary significantly, actually. Not everything made there is Harbor Freight quality. But at the same time I can understand the Made in China quality control stigma to be a very big negative regarding tools that are expected to be reliable out in the field.
At least in the shovel's case I would assume the danger of pissing off the Chinese government directly serves as a very real deterrent against slacking off in quality control for military equipment.
That said, I'm sure you've seen the video. It's hard to take the shovel seriously with a demonstration video running to the tune of spaghetti western music.
I guess, however, if I were seriously in the market for a collapsible shovel, I wouldn't go for the WJQ. I'd consider it bogged down by too many multitool functions; if I wanted the blade, wire cutter, saw, bottle opener, etc I'd have a dedicated multitool for that, because at least if something fails on the multitool it's typically a lone toolblade down rather than a failure condition that potentially compromises much the entirety of the whole shovel.
But here I am wondering if I'm wrong (or overly paranoid about a shovel breaking) and it's actually a competent design. Can't deny that the video is memorable, though.
CRACK OPEN THAT BEER, YOU EARNED IT AFTER UNDOING ALL THE THINGS YOU DID WITH THAT SHOVEL, USING THE SAME EXACT SHOVEL.
