>>471779Bring a machete. They swing very fast and would be the best tool against a dog. Let it take your non dominant fist or forearm. Don't let it get your leg or foot as they are strong when they pull and will drag you to the ground where they will release and go for the throat.
Don't run. Face the threat asap.
Hatchets are fine but take will tire out your arm quickly. They are slow. Very slow compared to how fast a dog is. A spear would be fine with a straight handled dagger as back up.
If you are attacked without a weapon on you do your best to grapple it. You'll have to give it something to bite on like your forearm but the goal is to grapple and get on top. From there main focus is to maintain top position as Primary objective. I believe the dog will let go of it's bite at this point but if it doesn't then continue on. Go for it's eyes with other hand and rain down elbows into it's skull. Not your fist as it won't have enough room to get enough speed and power behind it. You could try choking it but I doubt that would work. It would put your face so close to the back of it's head and with all it's hair I think it would be easy enough for it to squirm around to bite you in the face. So I say elbows and eye gouges.
