The cam system on compounds means that the full drawn weight is much less than the mid stroke allowing you to hold the bow really still before release without having one arm like Popeye.
But tbh, I have hunted with both and personally prefer recurves for field work and find that compounds are far better in the woods or hides due to the considerably shorter limbs, but that is just personal preference.
