Didn't find a thread about this topic, just wanted to ask if anyone has seen The Way Back?
Is it /out/doorsy enough? I've read that the panoramic shots are breathtaking,
but is it just drama followed by action or is there some outdoors activity portraied?

Most movies I can't repeat watch. this one I can so that makes it 5 stars in my book. Its not perfect. Bit its damn good.

Most movies I can't repeat watch. this one I can so that makes it 5 stars in my book. There is no over hyped cheap character "drama" . The drama there is is reasonable, limited, sometimes subtle but its well scripted, well directed and played out by the cast.

Maybe The Hunter and The Hunted suck, but how dare you say Death Hunt sucks, look at that movie, it's /out/ incarnate.

The action is realistic for the most part.
No tacticool weapons
Survival like crazy
based on a true story
Realistic movie
Good scenery.

I was pleasantly surprised by The Way Back - really enjoyed it. It did have some pretty dry spots but the wide angle and pan shots were excellent like you read.

'A Spell to Ward Off the Darkness' has some beautiful shots of the Finnish wilderness. It's pretty pretentious, but if you can get through the first third of the film (in an Estonian commune) you're golden. Also recommended if you're a fan of black metal.

I liked the hunter but its really slow and its message is a bit twisted.
Firstly its primarily about the character getting together with this woman and looking after her two kids.
But I think its really well done and cute.
But then there's the whole anti anti-green movement.
but at the same time the green idiots are seen as green idiots and the lumberjack idiots are seen as the idiots.
Only the Hunter seems to be the intelligent sane one in the film.
But it also raises a good question.
Would you kill a severely endangered animal for money and to protect those you care about?

Chatos land is another similar one but it has a more clumsy drama.
