>>476991base layer: synthetic or merino. use a balaclava on your head
mid layer: depends. for lower altitudes polar fleece should be enough, after certain altitude a down jacket is mandatory: you can even combine both. regarding pants, i use simple, fast dry ones, you may use softshell if you suffer from cold. a beanie cap is also nice.
top layer: waterproof jacket and pants. although delicate and not very breathable, marmot's precip line is good enough and affordable.
feet: get something warm and waterproof (few seams are usually a good indicator). pair your shoes with good socks, again, merino or synthetic depending on what you like, though the latter tends to dry faster, throw in a thin liner depending on your boots. also, always remember that yer gon die if you take something that's not double boots over 4000m in winter.
gloves: a liner or two and a hard shell outside. mitts are for fags, wear three finger gloves.
