Yo, /out/ Iowa-fag here. Anyone going camping during spring break? I am, shit's gonna be the tits soon as the snow is done melting.

Post upcoming camping trips/favorite areas to camp in the Midwest.

Missouri is great for camping, but if you go too far South, you might as well just bathe in DEET. Not recommended for the summer.

That being said, there are many great areas in Boone, Callaway, and Cole County for camping without too much in the way of insects like you get farther south. Take a look at the Northern areas of the Mark Twain National Forest, especially the Cedar Creek Subdivision

That's where I'll be in 2 weeks, though not the Cedar Creek area. I love the area near Steeleville, especially along the Ozark Trail.

Also the oak savannas around Chicagoland. You aren't technically allowed to camp in most of em, but when I was a kid I used to go out to the savanna and build a hut for the winter months that I would camp in. Shit was cash and apparently it was either not found, or no one gave a shit.
