Hey /Out, I'm looking for tent suggestions.

I'm looking to buy a 1 or 2 person tent for lone hiking. I found pic related Mec Tarn 2 used for $60. Looking for other options for cheaper backpacking tents.

Mesh see-through without fly is preferred. I like to enjoy my nature while bug protected.

I can tell you not what to buy. A Coleman camp dome two sucks so much dick. I staked it down on a flat piece of ground and the wind literally bent my aluminum poles. Fuckin bent then.

I have a suggestion. If you look at a single person tent online or wherever look at the dimensions. I got a 1 person Kelty tent and it is cramped as hell. You have basically just enough room to sleep in. I eventually got a 2 person tent for camping and now I can keep stuff inside, like my backpack.

This. 1-person tents are as advertised. There's very little room for much else. I'd rather be able to keep my pack in the tent than under the vestibule.

You should look into hammocks - about the same weight and price all things considered, but much more comfortable and convenient imo. Especially if it's intended for solo use.

Check out the REI online outlet, they always have a lot of last year's tents on sale.

It won't be $60 cheap, but you can get some damn good free-standing backpacking tents for <$200

I've probably spent more than 300 days in a Tarn 3, and maybe 50-60 in a Tarn 2. Bulletproof tent at that price. Not the lightest for backpacking though

A $225 tent for $60?

I can't imagine what kind of shape it'd be in.

You can get one of these (new) for $45.63 CAD (single person) if you really don't need a fly.

For $10 I got a little off brand thing exactly like ops pic and for $5 I got a nice 4-person Japanese tent

I used a Nordisk Svalbard 1 SI for a 100 days solo hiking trip through Europe.
The only thing that broke on that tent throughout the entire trip was a string going through the zipper, which could easily be fixed.

Good find, I've been using the same Tran 3 Plus since 1997. Very solid tent, a bit on the heavy side so don't hike it in anymore.
