tips?
I'm looking to get into mountaineering and this is the closest to me (snowdon second closes but higher)

Dragged up it when much younger so can't remember how long it took. Been up the mountain over the road from the story arms recently. Takes about an hour to get to the top. Tidy view.

brecon in general is hell on earth

As long as you know your route, have a good wicking layer with waterproofs over that and a decent semi clear day without a ridiculous amount of wind chill and rain i can't see anything wrong.

As always have a whistle of some sort so if you biff out in some way you won't die

With my dad about four years ago when I wasn't really into /out/ stuff. I don't remember how long it took, we were arguing about the fact I wanted to move out. It couldn't have taken that long and I certainly wasn't in what would be considered 'appropriate clothing'. A pair of converses and cotton socks. I might be mistaken and we walked up some different mountain, I remember there being a solid trail to walk up though.

It's easier to walk up then most people think, but the weather can close in stupidly fast so you need to be careful. Wind chill is your enemy here.

I hiked it back in January this year so there was ice, snow and really fucking cold winds to deal with, but at long as you layer up and have a decent outer shell you should be fine.

I think it took me around 3 hours to get up and back down, including lunch. There's a car park at the bottom of a trail.

I took my hoody off to sit on so that I wouldn't get my trousers soaked since I was going to fast and got out of breath very low down... it wasn't too chilly with a normal wool jumper and t shirt on however my hands head an neck definitely felt the chill

I advise anyone else who wants to try this to bring a scarf and hat or a headscarf as the wind is colder than the snow (which suprisingly wasn't that much of a problem)

when the clouds cleared occasionally it was very scenic
