zero drop

What is the best type of zero drop footwear? I'm talking flat, flexible sole, wide toe space, no arch "support," no spring or heel elevation.

Anyone had experience with Lems, Softstar, Vivobarefoot? VFF look weird, big toe is tight and are too thin for pavement imo, NB is too narrow, Altra and Merrell have arch supports, Sketchers, Nike, Newton, etc. are not true zero drop, just gimmicks.

I've been wearing vivobarefoot for years. I love them, or I should say I love the fit. I don't much care for their new designs a whole lot. Actually they discontinued my fave design some time ago but I had the foresight to buy a few pairs and these things seem to last me forever.

Yes, this is why I prefer Lems. They are more aesthetic, and have a wider toe box

They have a wider toe box than vivos? Vivos have the widest toe box ive ever came across, any wider and youd essentially be wearing flippers

Altra have the widest toe box of any shoe I tried on, and Lems is a close second. They make it so you can wear toe spacers while wearing them.

Try to get some Moccasins or Turnshoes (dark ages shoe). You might look odd in them (i doubt you'd care since no one gives a shit outdoors) but they are great.
I got a pair for £50 they're leather and really tough and you can feel the earth beneath your feet.

I used these shoes for their actual intended purpose (martial arts classes) but we did a lot of running, and sometimes I would even run in them recreationally. They are not SUPER durable, but they only cost 20 dollars. Def worth checking out if you're into barefoot style running. The soles are very thin but not too thin. I would say the shoes hold up very well, but i can't comment on their actual running life. I would get holes in the sole at my pivot point from doing the martial arts stuff, not sure how long they would last for running but even with my heavy use I only had to buy 2 pairs a year or so.

Even the Bikila EVO still makes my feet sore after a lot of walking on pavement, and this is still 3 months into wearing them. With the Lems they have a removable insole, which I would use if I am walking on sidewalks a lot. I recently ordered a new pair in the new design in the OP a size up, because feels less roomy with the insole, but using it is better on my feet, still zero drop and flat.

I'm looking at a pair of Vivobarefoot Ultras. Do they run small? I don't plan on wearing socks with them as the Ultras come with a removable sock.

Chucks are great for walking around in if that's what OP is looking for. They're not especially flexible though.

Nope. Chucks, vans, skate shoes, etc. have stiff soles and narrow toe spaces.

I mostly wear my Lems for everyday use, occasionally the fivefingers, and have some soft star arriving soon.

I don't like the shape of the toe box on vivos. There is way to much angle on the front. my toes aren't shaped like that so why would i want my shoes to be shaped like that?

Personally I find the toe box on the vivos to be perfect. It's huge and roomy. I can splay my toes easily and still have a little room to spare. I dont like lems because the sole is too thick on the model I like (8mm). I'm too used to a 3mm vivo sole for dat dere glorious proprioception.

Only if you want it to flop around. I bought some shoes a size too big and it is very strange to have a huge empty space in front of your toes. Why not just get a shoe that fits?
