Haven’t posted on /out/ (or 4chan for that matter) in a little while, but I could really use some recommendations and advice. This may be a bit more /trv/ related, but I think /out/ may be more helpful with some of my questions.

This summer, I’m going on a road trip on a budget. Pic related is a very, very, very rough outline I did in a few seconds in MS Paint. It’s just a general guideline of where I plan to go. I’d like to camp as much as I can during the trip to save money, but also see some nature and go hiking.

My first question is about any recommendations of parks, forests, or other areas in some of the states along the route. I don’t think Indiana, Ohio, Nebraska are exactly known for their great outdoors, but that’s all the more reason I would appreciate some input.

Second, looking for recommendations on what food to bring along. Since I won’t be backpacking and have the luxury of a car and all the space that it permits, I’d like to stock up and for as cheaply as possible. I have basic camping cooking equipment. I don’t know why I’m drawing a blank on what to bring- mostly that’s coming to mind is canned goods, oatmeal for breakfast, and plenty of water.

Last but not least, some additional equipment I should invest in. Most of my camping/backpacking trips have only been for a few days, so there are a lot of things I’ve done without. I have a tent, sleeping bag, hammock, knife, first aid kit, and cooking equipment, but that’s it. For example, I’ll definitely have to stop at a laundromat at some point, but it would be nice if I could wash something now and then at campsite. Should I just get a basin, clothesline, and camping soap? Again, I’m looking to save money, while taking advantage of having space in the car. Anything else that could be useful would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.
