When dehydrated food comes up on here, mostly what I see are overpriced backpacking specific stuff like Mountain House or Backpacker's Pantry. Or MREs.
But there's a much wider range of foods you can prepare by simply adding boiling water. The ones not targeted at hikers are much cheaper and in most cases much tastier too.
This thread is for sharing what kinds of 'instant' foods not intended to hiking that you nonetheless bring with you. Mashed potatoes? Ramen? Rice?
