What should I pack and what should I know for a ~1772 mile walk from Cold Lithuania to Colder Sweden. Will start at the beginning of July. No money, no housing, no transport. Only a book on plants if I can find one, a fat line of cord, knife, 5 bic lighters, a few changes of clothes and a whole bunch of hardtack.

Learned a bunch of snares and traps (even some fishing ones), plan on making a bow to shoot down some squirels and or kill someones cow, loot potato fields and storages. I'm pretty sure there ain't much to fear for wild animals until I pass into far northern sweden and most of those nigs are scared of fire, no?

The cold will kill you, if not starvation will. Bow hunting, especially with an old bow, is ridiculously difficult. Rabbits will bolt as soon as you move to draw. You will need some way of storing food and water without it freezing. You will need serious cold weather gear. Yes, you will need a stove, don't kid yourself. Ultralight stoves are perfect. You will need a very good sleeping bag, tent and roll mat, otherwise you will die.

And no, a stove is by no means essential. Neither is a "roll mat" - have you not used spruce or fir boughs?

I think one of the most critical pieces of equipment you can have for that region is an axe. It doesn't need to be a Scandinavian axe, but a hunting or forester axe will do just fine.

What are you going to do about water? In your situation, I'd recommend a pot that is 750ml to 1L so that you can boil water as necessary, then fill into cheap plastic water bottles. Your food needs are going to be difficult, but if your witty and not rushing, you can probably do this journey without dieing.

I actually wanted to join the Lithuanian armed forces,but I have no highschool diploma and won't be acquiring one anytime soon. Also have no means to travel, but by foot.
Now I need to decide if I should go join French Foreign Legion or the Donetsk rebels. Going to Sweden is last resort decision if I don't qualify for neither of those.
Anyone know anything about joining the FFL? Have IDs and all that, phisicaly fit, mentaly stable.
Joining the Donetskans might be harder because I speak very little Russian and they don't seem like a very well organised bunch.
Have my own reasons for sweden though, not military related.

If you want to run off and join a military for adventure, one of the Kurdish militias might take you for what we in the West still see as a noble cause.

If you want to survive the wilderness? Start by training to backpack, loaded down with rocks. When you can comfortably lug ~30-50kg around at 20km/day, get together a large survivalist loadout and set off. The fact that you don't have any idea what a ground mat is indicates you have done less than 1/1000th of the research you should do to prepare you for this sort of thing; You will very likely die if you go out on your own on that level of training more than 24 hours from help.

If you don't have the means to survive on your own, there's no shame in hitchhiking or taking a bus.

I know what a ground mat looks like, but I see no purpose for it. Whenever I had to go /out/ I just slept on a bunch of wheat. Every grass in Lithuania is wheat.
And I want to be able to survive all on my own off the wilderness, I believe that if you can't do that then you're dependant on society and if you can't live with nothing to support you then you're weak.

So I have no idea on your experience level, but this is something that even *I* only undertake with a huge amount of planning and care. Start out with a week or so at first, make sure you can catch/find your own food, you're going to have to learn different ways of purifying water. I'd strongly advise against this unless you're an expert in your particular biome.

If you're thinking FFL, there are actually a few good documentaries online, though I have no idea if they are blocked in your country. The docos are pretty insightful to what a dude would experience when going through basic training and other formalities.

Your ancestors could make it in the woods because they were equipped to live this way *at home*. The first decade of their lives was supervised training for living in this environment, and they were not sent out with zero equipment, but with the best they had - because even with these skills, travel was dangerous. So many answers. I think something to cook with like a aluminum pot would allow you to make certain foods more nutrient-available. You can make spruce tip tea with it. Also dur8ng the summer you can use to cook worms and slugs which is pretty fucking gross but if your hungry will taste palatble and give you protein. Its so hARD to hunt with a bow. Learn a little About fire making. If your cold you can stuff the insides of your clothing with spruce boughs for insulation. Learn what plants are edible. You can eat the dandlions here in Alaska all summer long and even make booze out of em. Get some good wool clothes or hemp for summer. Your gonna need sturdy clothes. If not a sleeping bag then a blanket. I think its good to lay a tarp on the ground to prevent water from ground moistening you then some soft spruce boughs as a mat. I dont even know what to say about mosquitoes.

Just tried to set a small one with hay and dry/wettish wood. Took about 10 minutes of fiddling around with the lighter and a lot of air.

I'd recommend buying a bow rather than making one while you're out there, especially if you're relying on it for bagging game and don't have significant experience making them. You could wind up sinking a great deal of time and effort into a bow that breaks or doesn't perform, which is obviously not desirable if you're planning on feeding yourself with it.
