Longtime /k/ommando here.

What does /out/ think of boonie hats?
Does the mosquito netting really work or is it just some kind of gimmick?
Opinion on adding sticks/leaves to the fabric loops around the top?

Also, where to get them? I have a really big head so a lot of the USGI surplus ones won't fit.

I like em but I prefer short brim, though boonies have a tendency to make you look autistic if youre not carefull. Net works great, mine is built into the hat.

Good to know about the mosquito net, but the autism bit bothers me.

I have the separate mosquito head-net that >>491195
mentioned. Even when I go really high and dry, and don't expect mosquitoes, I always bring it (and probably shouldn't). That thing saved my life when I had to live in it for 2 weeks. It has a metal ring that keeps the netting off of your face. The net in op's pic does not have this ring. Without the ring, the net rests against your face and mosquitoes can bite you through the holes in the mesh. However, they can still land on your shoulder, crawl up inside, and then buzz around inside

Probably so you don't get mosquito bites on your face.

As long as you are wearing the hat and the hat isn't wearing you, anyhting is ok when you're /out/.

I really like this one though it would probably look better without the band. Not a boonie but whatever. It has a 360 brim at least.
