I'm in Chicago, and I've already hiked most of Door County WI.

I've heard that Shawnee national forest IL was good, and that Superior forest MI was good too.

Anybody have any Midwest /out/ experience?

I second red river gorge- its absolutely beautiful, good fishing, can camp along streams but not withing 100 ftf of roads or cliff faces, plenty of water access and its only like $10 for a 3 day parking pass. I'm gonna try kayak camping it solo as soon as it warms up.

Happen to remember what long term (week long or so) options for parking passes were available?

I'm going to some shit site where parking is free and they charge you $20 for kayak shuttle. I don't plan on camping at their site though.
