>>494753Lost Maples is great. The pond is a good place to camp in August, you can swim too. In the evenings the cool pond water keeps the camp area cooler than most would believe. Pedernales in June, July, or August is brutal for camping but the river is fun albeit crowded.
If you like exploring undisturbed areas, do your research on Lost Maples recent acquisition of an adjoining ranch. It's fenced off and completely undeveloped land that will someday be an extension of the park. Good for exploring, not a single sign of human touch on the 600+ acres i've exlplored. No water, but the LM pond is a 20 minute hike away and there is a natural spring between the two properties that you can fill your camelbacks with.
Also, if you like water fun, check out Garner state park. Busy busy busy in the summer but great swimming, hiking, cave exploration, evening dances, and socializing with travelers such as yourself.
Pic related- undeveloped area behind Lost Maples. Right now is a good time to go, much greener and the evenings are cool
